Saturday, Jan. 10 found St. Rita’s Catholic Church in East Fort Worth ringing with strains of freedom and hope as people from around the diocese gathered to remember the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Bishop Michael Olson presided over the Memorial Mass which has been celebrated annually in the Diocese of Fort Worth since 1986, the year Dr. King’s birthday was first observed as a national holiday.
Sister Alice Hunter died peacefully in her sleep on the evening of January 22. Sister Alice, whose religious name was Sister Marie Anthony Hunter, was a 97-year-old retired educator who taught in sister of Saint Mary schools in the Fort Worth and Dallas dioceses. Her wake will be at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 26 at Our Lady of Victory Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27 at OLV Center. Interment will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
Bishop Michael Olson has erected a new parish in the Prosper, Frisco, and Little Elm area of Denton County. He made the announcement Sunday, Dec. 28, during a Mass he celebrated for the Prosper/Frisco/Little Elm community.
