VATICAN CITY (CNS) -- Today's bishops must be as vigilant and courageous as sentinels keeping watch over the faith, and as forgiving and patient as Moses, leading a sinning people across harsh deserts to God, Pope Francis said.
There are few people who can appreciate the explosive growth of Catholics in North Texas better than Carol Watson. Raised in an Irish Catholic neighborhood, the Manhattan native went to Catholic schools and grew up surrounded by people of the same faith. When she married husband, Frank, and settled in New Jersey, her environment was still heavily Catholic.
The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches that “human life must be respected and protected absolutely from the moment of conception” (2270). The Respect Life Office of the Diocese of Fort Worth strives to protect human lives through its services, which include Youth for Life, Rachel Ministries, and Gabriel Project. These three major diocesan pro-life programs are made possible through the office’s biggest fundraiser of the year: The Bishop’s 10th Annual Respect Life Gala. This year’s gala, set for Sept. 27, will feature Bishop Michael Olson as its primary speaker. All proceeds will go to the Respect Life Office so the diocese can carry out its pro-life mission.
