Fresh quake rattles confidence of people, relief workers in Nepal

KATHMANDU, Nepal (CNS) -- The second major earthquake in less than three weeks spread renewed fears and dented the confidence of people, said Church and charity workers. "The death and devastation may be less, but the psychological impact is very high," Bishop Paul Simick of Nepal told Catholic News Service May 13.

When second quake hit, fear filled those waiting for relief materials

NAMJUNG, Nepal (CNS) -- As the magnitude-7.3 quake hit, screaming and shouting filled the mountain village of Namjung, where approximately 600 people had gathered to collect relief material distributed by Catholic Relief Services on May 12. When the quake ended, people were anxiously looking at dust rising from the nearby villages, with the collapse of houses and other buildings.
