Pope leads Rome's Corpus Christi procession on behalf of persecuted Christians

ROME (CNA/EWTN News) -- Persecuted Christians were remembered during Thursday's Corpus Christi procession in Rome, where Pope Francis told the thousands taking part to walk and pray in unity with those who cannot express their faith so openly.


Pope's environmental encyclical to be titled 'Laudato Sii' (Praised Be You)

VATICAN CITY -- Taken from St. Francis of Assisi’s “Canticle of the Sun” prayer praising God for creation, the likely name of the Pope’s upcoming encyclical was informally announced just weeks before its anticipated publication. Fr. Giuseppe Costa, director of the Vatican Publishing House, reportedly announced the encyclical’s title Saturday afternoon, May 30, in Naples.


Failures are par for the course toward salvation, says Pope Francis

VATICAN CITY (CNS) -- The road to salvation may be pitted with failures, but God uses them and overturns them to manifest his love for his people, said Pope Francis. Reflecting on the parable of the wicked tenants in the Gospel of Mark during morning Mass at the Domus Sanctae Marthae June 1, the pope said the parable may be understood to represent the "failure of God's dream."
