Pope begs governments to act to stop anti-Christian persecution

VATICAN CITY (CNS) -- "Do something to put a stop to the violence and oppression," Pope Francis asked the international community after calling attention once again to the fate of persecuted Christians, especially in the Middle East.


Pope holds 'virtual town hall' with ABC and Catholics in 3 cities

WASHINGTON (CNS) -- Pope Francis held a "virtual town hall" with Catholics in Chicago, Los Angeles, and McAllen, Texas, in advance of his Sept. 22-27 visit to the United States. The town hall was arranged by ABC News, which was to air portions of the meeting during its "World News Tonight" program Aug. 31, with an hour-long version of its "20/20" newsmagazine program called "Pope Francis & the People" airing 10-11 p.m. EDT Sept. 4.

VATICAN CITY (CNA/EWTN News) -- In his Sunday Angelus address Pope Francis said that merely obeying the rules isn’t enough to make us holy, but that if we truly want to serve God our conversion has to be deeper, changing the heart.
