Sister Jo Anne Becker, SSMN, (1934-2012) remembered for musical talent, cheerful demeanor

Sister Jo Anne Becker, a Sister of St. Mary of Namur who was known for her musical talent and cheerful demeanor, died Tuesday, July 3, 2012. The sisters gathered for a Scriptural Rosary at 4 p.m., and a Vigil service was held at 7 p.m., July 5, at Our Lady of Victory Center. Mass of Christian Burial was held at OLV Center with interment at Mount Olivet Cemetery on July 6.

Growing up a Catholic youngster in San Antonio, Albert Saenz was impressed with the group of men at the hub of his favorite parish activities. “Every year they put on the annual Easter Egg Hunt for kids and were known for their barbecue dinners. But troubling lab results forced her medical team to postpone the surgery.


UNT/TWU Catholic Campus Ministry to become diocese’s first university parish, Bl. John Paul II

In a small building right off the campus of the University of North Texas in Denton, a group of about 50 students gather in the downstairs common area for a daily Mass as the end of the semester nears. The building is the Catholic Campus Center, affectionately known as the “C” to the students, and as of July 1, will be home to the newly established Blessed John Paul II Parish to serve the students, faculty, staff, and alumni of UNT and Texas Woman’s University, and their families.

Former Episcopalian priests who have been received into the Catholic Church over the years expressed joy following the Nov. 15, announcement of Bishop Kevin Vann’s appointment as Ecclesiastical Delegate for the Pastoral Provision in the United States, and that the Personal Ordinariate for former Anglicans in the U.S. would be established Jan 1, 2012.
